Blown glass soap dispensers
We design our blown glass soap dispensers with durability in mind. They have a stout shape with a stable bottom so they won’t knock over. We blow the glass much thicker than some of the other items we create so they will be durable and withstand constant use.
They are available in a variety of standard Robbins Ranch Color Mixes, but we can also create a custom mix to match your decor, for a truly one of a kind piece. Send us images of the room it’s going into and we can make recommendations for the color selection. You can use either liquid soap or hand lotion and they will hold approximately 24 oz of fluid. Dispensers come with either a white or black pump on top, with replacement pumps available. Please specify your color preference when ordering.
How we make these
First we lay out a design of chips of concentrated glass color onto a big steel tabletop. As we gather molten clear on the end of a blow pipe, we pull out some hot glass that looks like honey. We roll the hot glass on the steel tabletop to cool the first gather of clear. On this gather we puff out a small bubble inside the clear and start the core of the dispenser.
Next we take another gather of clear which adds thickness to the piece. In order to make a sturdy dispenser, we need to take a second gather, before adding the glass color to the surface. When we have a good amount of clear, we then roll this gather across the table into the glass pigments. We then can shape the gather using cherrywood blocks to get a nice round form and start blowing out the glass.
We continue to blow out the glass until we have a form we are happy with. After several reheats and puffs of air, and forming the shape, we break the glass off of the end of blow pipe and place into an oven to cool down to room temperature. We keep the dispensers overnight in the oven for a very slow cooling. Then we remove them from the oven to grind down the top and seat the pumper. We use a diamond plated lapping wheel to flatten and polish the break off.
After we grind and level each piece properly, we clean, price and pack each piece to sell. We take pride in the work that we do and believe that quality is of the utmost importance.
