A Dichroic Zippo Lighter?! What?? This one of a kind idea was inspired by a customer who has hundreds of Zippos! When he saw our one of a kind Bolo Ties made with dichroic glass, he knew exactly what he wanted. We immediately got to work creating a Dichroic Zippo Lighter. He was so happy and so were we, with our newest creation of functional art! Each lighter is unique, durable, fashionable, and fun. We create them in a palette of either warm or cool colors. Dichroic patterned collages with amazing metallic color effects that will light up your life.
How we make these….
First we cut pieces of dichroic glass and set into an oven to melt. We fuse the pieces together at 1450ºF for a couple hours and then let the oven cool down. After the glass has cooled to room temperature, we use a diamond saw and cut out a shape that mirrors the face of a Zippo lighter.
Next we polish a perfect match to the shape of the lighter preparing the glass to attach to the face of the metal casing. We then carefully cut the glass cab across the center where the lighter is going to open. With a seamless split in the glass patterns, the top and bottom of the lighter come together perfectly.
Finally, we polish and bevel the glass on all sides and set onto the face of the lighter with a two part epoxy. After the glass has permanently bonded to the metal face, we pair it with a magnetic stand and little display flame for a fun showing of your unique functional piece of art. A one of a kind dichroic zippo lighter will display proudly on the mantel or shelf, ready to light that roaring winter fire!
